John W. Foster, Esq.

John W. Foster is a graduate of Rollins College, earning his BA there in 1976 and later going on to earn his J.D. in 1980, at the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

For more than 35 years, John has handled complex litigation, trials, and appeals in state and federal courts. His practice now focuses exclusively on high-stakes and complex divorce, marital and family law cases. John is actively involved in the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar Association, for which he serves on the Executive Council and Legislation Committee, co-chairs the Parentage Committee, and is former chair of the Equitable Distribution Committee.

John is ranked by Chambers USA and has been named as a Florida “Legal Elite” for Marital and Family law by Florida Trend, as a Florida “Super Lawyer,” as one of Orlando’s Best Lawyers by Orlando Magazine, as a top lawyer by the Orlando Home and Leisure Magazine, and as one of The Best Lawyers in America (2016 Edition). He is also a member of The National Advocates “Top 100” Lawyers.

John has handled numerous marital and family law cases through trials and appeals dealing with issues such as dissolution of marriage, equitable distribution of marital assets and liabilities, alimony, parenting issues, timesharing or custody issues, child support, paternity, the enforceability of prenuptial agreements, and other family law or marital issues, including the representation of business entities named as parties in marital dissolution actions.

John is collaboratively trained. He has handled to successful conclusions a large number of divorce cases through the Collaborative Process, which is an alternative dispute resolution process through which actions for dissolution of marriage and related relief may be amicably resolved without protracted and expensive litigation.

John has also served as lead counsel in numerous federal and state cases, including cases involving Florida’s Control Share Acquisition Act (or Anti-takeover Act), Intellectual Property claims, tortious interference and state antitrust claims, breach of contract claims, securities fraud claims, fraud claims, construction claims, cruel & unusual punishment and excessive force claims, and a variety of other claims.

John sits on the Board of Directors of Turning Point Central Florida (as Vice-President), is a former Board member of Youth Ministry Institute and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Downtown Orlando. He is a long time resident of Central Florida and continues to be very active in the community.
